The Department offers courses that take a new look at the potential of the planning in the context of contemporary urbanism. It will be specifically developed for architects, designers and strategic planners (with theory and practice) who wish to be proactive in the design of the cities of the future. The course team has a commitment to sustainability and developes an interdisciplinary and team collaboration in growing fields of urban and regional planning design.The mission of the urban and regional planning programme is to prepare intellectually grounded graduates for careers in URP to undertake professional planning activities and provide services in collaboration with the existing institutions such as Local Authorities, International Organizations and NGO’s. More broadly, the URP program major aim is to prepare entry level professional planners who abide to such norms as economic efficient, environmental suitability, equity and ethically responsible manpower who are recognized by Kenya Association of Planners. This career in planning requires knowledge of planning philosophy, disaster management, analytical methods, problem formulation and resolution, law and local governance, cultural, social, economic, ecological and physical characteristics of human settlement skills. This preparation provides a comprehensive and coherent education in the humanities, modern analytical orientation of the professions. This program is tailored to be in line with the vision 2030 where the government recognizes the need for capacity building in high quality development planning that ensures citizenry a clean secure environment.
